A message from Pastor Jake Wampfler, Associate Pastor, Faith Lutheran Church [dated 6-21-20]:

"As I shared with you on Monday, June 8, a Call was extended to me by Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, AZ to serve as their associate pastor. First off, I want to thank all of you for your heartfelt prayers and support during the past two weeks of discernment and seeking of God's will. Alex and I appreciate every text, email, phone call, and kind word we've received from all of you. After much prayer and deliberation, we have decided to accept that Call to Shepherd of the Desert and my last Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church will be July 19 pending further conversation with church leadership.

In worship on June 21, I shared with those gathered in the sanctuary and tuning in online that this was certainly not an easy decision for Alex and I to make. We have grown to love Faith and Topeka over the past six years. However, as we were interviewed by Shepherd, as we visited the congregation in May, and as we received the official Call, we prayed that the Lord would close doors or put up roadblocks if we were supposed to stay in Topeka. No such barriers were placed before us, and it became very clear that the Lord was calling us to go and embark on a new chapter of our journey together. Topeka will always be a special place to us, and the people of Faith and this community and city will always remain in our hearts.

I also shared that I'm not much for saying "goodbye." I almost never utter that phrase in my daily life. Even when I parted ways with my family before my deployment to Iraq, I looked at my parents, smiled, and said, "See you later." When we belong to Christ Jesus, there is no such thing as "goodbye." We are forever connected as his body, the church, and even if we never see each other again on this earth we will see one another again when Jesus comes back to make all things new. I take great comfort and joy in that reality, knowing that Alex and I will always be connected to you through Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

There will be lots of opportunities for us to connect before July 19, so please be on the lookout for more information in the days and weeks to come. Thank you for walking with Alex and I in ministry and life together these past six years. Look us up if you're in the Phoenix area, and we'll see you later."
