What is Service?

How is good service distinguished from bad service. Good service is done in a way that provides for the needs of those being served. Christian service is the epitome of good service. The Lord demonstrated service when He served up His life on a Cross to free us to start living again. Christian service is not self-serving, attending to someone’s needs for the sake of what you will get out of it. Christian service is defined not by the needs of the one serving but the needs of the one being served.

Service—We have been blessed to be a blessing.

At Faith, Christian Service is expressed as people do tasks that help others here grow in faith. Christian Service at Faith includes endless opportunities to serve the needs of people outside of the congregation, people in other places in Topeka, in other cities, other states, other countries. Christian Service is the name we use for walking the talk of our faith.

In the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and —with great patience and careful instruction.
- 2 Timothy 4:1-2

What is Outreach?

Outreach is the words and actions witnessing to Jesus Christ and what He has accomplished with the purpose of being a conduit through which the Holy Spirit brings them to faith and connects them to the body of Christ.

Outreach—Making Christ known to others and including them in His family

The Biblical words used for witness can also be translated “martyr,” revealing the level of importance placed on revealing the message of Christ.  The purpose of such witness is to bring those who are not connected to the Body of Christ into the faith and the community of the followers of Christ.

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.  The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself. - Galatians 5: 13-14
